Recon presented GMSMA's Folsom Street East which took place in Manhattan, NYC on the 22nd June. Photos can now be viewed within the Recon Events Gallery.
GMSMA’s Folsom Street East was a huge success. Close to 10,000 attendees crammed the block which was mobbed with leather, rubber and (apparently) khaki fetishists despite an occasional summer shower. And despite the rain, GMSMA raised a record amount at the gates!
The event was lined with community groups and leather/kink/porn vendors. Chi Chi LaRue was the emcee and Bob Mould was the headline performer. Also performing on stage were Sylvia Tosun, Kissy Kamikaze, Trai La Trash, Noa Tylo, Supa Nova, The Oskar, and the Imperial Court of New York. FSE’s Sexual Freedom Award went to Rick Webber and Peter Schwartz in recognition of their tireless “lead by example” efforts on behalf of the NYC leather community.
One visitor summed the day up this way: "Folsom Street East isn't about the flogging, or the multi-colored dildos, or the rubber suits/gas masks, critters and nudity (though there is all that). It's about camaraderie steeped in freedom of expression on a summer Sunday afternoon. That is what makes it so enjoyable."
This community fundraising event benefits the LGBT Center, the Anti-Violence Project and the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom.
