We are looking for bright, enthusiastic and highly creative web designer who has a strong passion for the work that they will create. Working at the Recon office in Islington, London, the designer is required to work within an established development team to create Website UI designs and concepts.

The ideal candidate will be able to handle a wide range of project types from discovery to concept to design and then production. The position is a wide-ranging role with plenty of variety, working for a forward thinking company whose products include Recon.com, the Recon Online Store plus other ongoing and upcoming projects.

You will work closely with backend developers; advising on UI design and also stakeholders on developing solutions:


  • Creating strong UI designs with the website's design guidelines, including: conceptual designs, optimised images, hi/lo fidelity mock ups + HTML / CSS

  • Exceptional graphic design skills with the ability to take designs from detailed wireframe concept through to finished graphics for the Web and html email marketing

  • Contributing to design guidelines

  • Ensuring that front end code is W3C/WAI compliant + compatible with the website's supported browsers

  • Working closely with stakeholders and project manager to ensure designs are kept to company style

  • Working closely with HTML Developers to ensure consistent + high quality coding standards


Required skills:

  • A keen interest in working as part of a team, with regular interaction with other IT Technologists.

  • Excellent design + layout skills

  • Experience in UI design of high traffic or e-commerce websites

  • Proficient in Adobe PhotoShop

  • Clear understanding of W3C/WAI standards and guidelines and their impact on design

  • Proven experience with HTML, XHTML and CSS coding for multiple browsers and versions

  • Knowledge of Javascript and AJAX an asset


Knowledge of any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Adobe Illustrator

  • Adobe InDesign / QuarkXPress

  • Print Design and Publishing
